Contacts & Privacy Shield

DodaMail prioritizes your data privacy and recipient relationships. The built-in Privacy Shield protects you against invasive email tracking, while the Contacts Manager provides offline address book management with VIP flagging.

1. The Contacts Manager Dialog (ContactsManagerModal.tsx)

Open the Contacts Manager by clicking Contacts in the sidebar or navigating to Settings -> Contacts.

Import & Export Controls

  • “Import vCard (.vcf)”: Imports contacts from Apple Contacts, Google Contacts, or Thunderbird vCard archives.
  • “Import CSV”: Supports standard Outlook and Google CSV address book exports with visual column mapping.
  • “Export Contacts”: Backs up your entire contact book to a standard .vcf or .csv file.

2. Privacy Shield & Spy Pixel Blocker (TrackerInspectorModal.tsx)

Email marketers and tracking companies embed microscopic 1x1 transparent images (“spy pixels”) and web beacons into commercial emails. When opened, these images ping external servers to log your exact IP address, physical geolocation, time of opening, and device type without your consent.

DodaMail’s Privacy Shield inspects incoming HTML payloads, blocks remote assets by default, and neutralizes known tracking vectors.

Reading Pane Privacy Controls

When viewing an email containing external assets:

  • Privacy Warning Banner: Informs you that external images were blocked to safeguard your IP address.
  • “Load Remote Images Once” Button: Temporarily fetches images for the active email session only.
  • “Always Trust This Sender” Button: Whitelists the sender’s email address, allowing remote images to render automatically for future messages.
  • “Inspect Blocked Trackers” Badge: Displays the number of neutralized spy pixels (e.g., [Shield: 4 Trackers Blocked]). Clicking launches the Tracker Inspector Modal.

“Copy Tracker Details” Action Button Copies the list of tracking domains and URLs for privacy audits or firewall blocklists.
“Close” Dismiss Button Closes the inspector.

3. One-Click Unsubscribe Engine (UnsubscribeModal.tsx)

DodaMail automatically inspects message headers for standard RFC 8058 List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post directives.

When detected, a dedicated Unsubscribe button appears at the top of the email header:

  1. Clicking Unsubscribe opens the confirmation modal.
  2. If the sender provides an automated One-Click HTTP POST endpoint, DodaMail submits the opt-out payload in the background without launching external browser tabs or sign-in forms.
  3. If the sender utilizes a Mailto Unsubscribe mechanism, DodaMail automatically drafts and sends the required opt-out message via your outgoing SMTP server.
  4. Once completed, a confirmation toast displays: “Successfully unsubscribed from this mailing list.”

4. Blocked Senders Manager (blockedSenders.ts)

To permanently block harassing or unwanted senders:

  1. In the reading pane toolbar, click More Actions (…) -> Block Sender.
  2. Select whether to block the Specific Email Address (spammer@domain.com) or the Entire Domain (*@domain.com).
  3. Choose the handling policy:
    • Move to Spam: Automatically diverts all future mail from this sender to the Spam folder.
    • Permanently Delete: Silently discards future emails from this sender immediately upon IMAP synchronization.
  4. You can review and unblock senders at any time in Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Blocked Senders.
